13.2 a learning experience
So I caught a bit of a rude awakening on open wod 13.2. After 13.1 and a 12thplace northern California finish I was feeling pretty confident. Even though my training hadn't been comprised of a ton of conditioning I held on for the 17 minutes. I was confident I could do the same in 13.2.
As it turns out the game has been raised. While 165 lbs is a heavy snatch and eliminated many athletes from contention, 115 is not. The very hard-working and fit crossfitters of norcal and the world kicked my ass.
There's only two options at this point. Either admit defeat, or strike back. I choose option two. Its time to start hitting workouts with enthusiasm. It doesn't matter what the workout is. Just that I take every opportunity to check myself and pick up the pace. And the only way to check yourself in my mind is to have goals within the workout. To know a time or number of rounds and to be sure I meet and exceed that goal when possible and learn from it and adjust training when its necessary or I can't achieve that goal.
To make that goal I have to be more involved in my programming. Both in the wods I come up with and the wods I get from my coach. To understand my plan and to find out what she expects on a workout and what I think I can do achieve the desired end state. It's going to be a battle, but if I can get back to the roots of why I fell in love with CrossFit no one can stand in my way.

ReplyDeleteZack, way to bust out 13.2. First year at CF Games for me. As a master's competitor I'd gladly have said 165# was even on my list! My background is endurance/tri/marathoning - so building strength is key. The chipper, body weight stuff is right up my alley.
